The most commonly asked question first: why July Life Coach?

Short answer: I was born in July.

The Long Answer

In June of 2022, I came back from Austin, Texas with my life coach certification training. Before attending the training I was contemplating: should I practice or not? Should I just keep this knowledge for self-coaching or have a business?

After sitting with this for a while, I made a decision to practice.

Shortly after, June had turned into July — and when it was time to register my business officially, I saw the giant calendar on our kitchen wall that said July and it just felt right. July Life Coach. So I registered my business name under that, and the rest is history.

If I had been in France, it would have been Juillet Life Coach.

Who I Am

My name is Billy Seol. I'm a Korean guy living in Los Angeles, California with my wife and two dogs. I recently quit my software engineering job and now I have a general life coaching practice named — as described above — July Life Coach.

My entire life story will be for another time, but I want to formally tell you the entire point of this practice.

My goal is to be the internet's life coach. I want to be the person that anybody can think of to ask when they have a question about life.

That's why I'm writing these, why I'm on a lot of internet platforms talking about a bunch of topics.

Why the Internet Needs a Life Coach

As someone who spends a lot of time online, I have experienced the internet to be a very comforting place when I was feeling lonely. But these days — especially post-COVID — we are finding the internet to be a more and more hostile, polarized space.

The effects of a polarized internet space bleed out into organic life. We see more violence, more consumerism, more conflicts, more drug usage, and more other things humanity hasn't experienced in its multi-thousands-years history.

The Foundation

Although the problems humanity is facing are new, they all follow the same paradigm of solution called the dharma — and it is what the Buddha realized over two thousand years ago. Through my deep practice of Buddhism and a lifelong experience of working with clients, I have come to integrate the dharma with practical life coaching.

How This Works

My practice starts on the internet first. I want you to familiarize yourself with how I work with problems through my many writings and videos. You can also see my coaching in action — real conversations from Reddit. Over the past 3 years I'm confident that no matter what the topic is, I've talked about it at least once publicly.

Then you might have a more unique combination of problems, or you might have a difficult time applying the coaching to your life even though you understand what you need to do. This is when personalized coaching comes into play.

The Mission

The goal of personal coaching is simple: to be a free person who doesn't suffer. Helping you understand the mechanics of freedom and suffering has been the mission of my life and I've tirelessly honed my skills in doing so.

Coaching calls won't just be fully general Q&As on what you're thinking of — they will have structure, and I will build you up to your freedom.

On the other side, I have business coaching. The goal of business coaching is also simple: make money happily.

Regardless of where you are in life, I will always have something to give to you. My goal is to graduate you from a person who has something to gain into a person who has something to give.
